Let your friends know about Libra

Libra started out as an experiment for us to see if it's possible to create a sustainable business by giving away software for free. The way it works is when you go to Amazon through Libra and buys something from there, we get a tiny cut out of it. With wide distribution, this revenue model can sustain a small team that continues to develop the software and provide technical support for it, even though we do not charge for the software.

With *wide* distribution, that is.

We need your help to spread the word on Libra to keep this effort going. Without it, Libra will not be sustainable in the long run. It takes engineering time to develop Libra, and no engineering team can survive on air.

So, do let your friends or user group know about Libra. If you have a blog, write about Libra. With your effort, Libra can continue to evolve and remain free.

amazon referral and adding new engines

cool, will start to click on libra before doing any new purchases of amazon, so you guys can get the referral %. I really loved libra; finally we have a decent competitor to delicious library on the pc platform...

i'm now looking for a way to add diferent search engines to libra. I have already played with base.xml and ItemBook.xml, but seems that the connectivity to data provider is not there (in fact I found the calls to soap.amazon.com hardcoded at libra.exe). Is there any draft specs of how can I add addt providers through the external xml? Specifically I want to add an additional bookstore (www.submarino.com.br) so I can add the bookpart of my collection that is in portuguese.

if you need a developer beta tester, would be glad to help.

btw, tested also with cue cat barcode scanner and works perfectly :)

best,

Buying through Amazon to help support Libra

Wheels17

Can you give us a short tutorial on how to order through Libra to ensure that you get your cut? Typically, I'm entering books, dvds and cds I already have. If I double-click on an existing book and order another do you get your cut? Or do you get a piece of anything I order once I enter through your site? I'd love to support this model, and want to be sure that I do it right.

Thank you for supporting us.

Thank you for supporting us. When you visit Amazon through Libra (eg. double-clicking any item), we'll get a tiny cut when you subsequently order anything (need not be the book you double-clicked). I don't know how long the cookie will stay active, but believe it's just a short period of time.
