Automatically Importing Barcodes

I find when I automatically import items based on barcodes scanned from the webcam, I hit a glitch with the number of copies. It adds the first book with no problems, but when I scan a second it adds a copy of the second to the library, and another copy of the first.

This continues down the line - if I add 20 books in one webcam session, the first book will be added to the library with 20 copies, the second with 19, and so on.

Its fine if I scan the barcodes in to be reviewed and then add manually - its just the scan and automatically add option that has issues. I'm using 0.9.2, and a Creative Labs Live! Cam

Is there a way around that?

And other problems

I also noticed this, and don't mind editing all the copies to 1 (easy to do, like other commenter said).

My bigest problem is that it scans all kinds of books I don't own. I cleared out about 10% of my first day's scanning of books because I didn't have a book. I got a few children's books, some business book, and other random things. The scanner even beeped a few times while the only thing in the image was my out of focus sweater.

Maybe the program should read each barcode 2-3 times before doing the search? That seems like it might rule out false codes.

Yes, this seems to be a bug.

Yes, this seems to be a bug. If the Add Automatically option is selected, the program should clear the results automatically as well. Otherwise each addtion results in the previous ones being incrented by one over and over.

I found that after I did a scan of a barcode or entered an ISBN manually, if I click the Clear Results button (with Automatically Add checked) I only get one copy entered. It's a pain but not as bad as going back and editing each book later.

Automatic scanning

Hi there
My first post, thanks very much for this top program; I went mad a scanned everything I could!! Love the export feature especially to Excel where I am currently summing the items for insurance purposes which I have put off because of the typing involved (but no longer yippee!!). As you can see from the discussions it has plenty of people excited so keep up the good work.

Consequently I feel a bit bad about mentioning the issue I have where on some scans I get multiple copies other than that i think its great. As for future ideas is it possible to add in stuff like vinyl/tapes/vhs etc and is there other databases that can be used as this is a top front end for this.

Regards and many thanks again

Just a small note... U can

Just a small note... U can actually edit the "Copies" field for all affected items in 1 action. Select all your items, and then go to the DETAILS tab and set COPIES to "1". This will be written to all selected items.

Sounds like a bug to me. No

Sounds like a bug to me. No good way around this for now... so you'll need to edit the "Copies" field after you've scanned your books in. Thanks for the report.

try a workaround but find a new bug....

I have try a workaround ... instead of using the "add automatic" feature I try to scan all my books and to add them manually one by one to my library. But that doesn't work because when the program does not find a book in amazon it clear automatically all the books previously scanned and display that no book what found in amazon...dommage!

Another workaround is to

Another workaround is to export your library to an excel file, and then import it back to a new Libra library.

I had planned to edit the excel file so there'd only be one copy of each one of my books (at lot easier than doing it one-by-one, especially since I had scanned a few hundred books), but as it turned out, the excel file didn't hold any info on the number of copies at all (which, I think, is another bug).
